About Me
I have lived in Brisbane for most of my life, initially living in the Illawarra and NSW Southern Highlands just prior to Expo '88. That begs the question ... who do I follow in the State of Origin? QUEEEENSLANDER!!! of course.
I caught the IT bug while I was a child in primary school playing with Apple IIe's, IBM 286 Clones, IBM XTs, Commodore Amiga's, etc. My curiosity stuck and computers turned into one of many hobbies and my career.
Initially I wouldn't say programming was what I initially saw as my speciality ... I've worked in IT in industries spanning Aviation, Mining, Real Estate and Marketing in various roles such as an IT Technician, IT Helpdesk Officer, Systems Administrator and of all the odd choices as a Sales Support agent in a Real Estate firm. However it wasn't until I could kill time on the IT Helpdesk graveyard shifts (ensuring a certain Brisbane based airline's IT systems were behaving themselves) that I had the chance to cross skill and provide proof that I could jump into PHP programming professionally at the aforementioned airline.
After spending a couple of years there, I felt it was time to keep my knowledge and skills relevant, so I made the move into web programming at a Marketing firm where it was possible to keep up to date with the latest technologies. Due to the right timing, I then became part of the ireckon family.
Outside of work, its not all computers … I live in a big house on a peaceful* stretch of the Brisbane River with my wife and daughter. We always have our caravan ready to roll when time allows us a weekend away.
What I do
While the web developers make things pretty, I help to tie it all together into a functional application.
